Everything You Need To Know About Facials

With all that’s been going on, it’s easy to let your skincare routine fall by the wayside. But taking care of your face might be more important than ever, especially considering how many of us are rocking face masks on the day to day. Surely, I am not alone in these mask-related breakouts. We at Bella Mia have taken to calling it “mask-ne” as we are fond of portmanteaus. I checked in with one of our estheticians, Susan, to get my own skin looked at and to get the details on all things facial related.

There’s actually a huge variety in the facial game and not every size fits all. Generally speaking, when you make an appointment at a salon or spa, the esthetician will take a look at your skin to help you decide what’s needed. If you get them as infrequently as I do, you will likely be booked for what’s called a “Correcting Facial”, which means that she will focus on the biggest problem area for your skin (for me that means extractions- fun!) But other options could be more geared towards hydration, anti-aging, hyper-pigmentation, etc. To really keep your skin in tip-top shape, Susan recommends a treatment once a month if you can manage it.

Regardless of what type of facial you sign up for, the beginning of the treatment is the same. The Esthetician will wash and exfoliate your face and apply steam to soften the pores. If extractions are needed, she will use a tool to remove blackheads safely to avoid bruising or damaging your skin. She will then apply a mask, LED light, or other treatment depending on what your skin specifically needs. Any of Bella Mia’s full hour-long facials also include a neck and shoulder massage, but we also offer express facials without all the bells and whistles that are a little cheaper.
